Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American writer and journalist. He was part of the 1920s expatriate community in Paris, and one of the veterans of World War I later known as the Lost Generation. He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for 《The Old Man and the Sea》, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.

His protagonists are typically stoical men who exhibit an ideal described as grace under pressure. Many of his works are now considered classics of American literature.

The novel was called The Sun Also Rises. It is about young Americans in Europe after World War One.
Experiencing two World Wars, taking part in the anti-Fascist war, witnessing the transition of the society, encountering his last wife in Spain, Hemingway finished For Whom the Bell Tolls after ten years.
One of Hemingways greatest works A Farewell to Arms is mainly about World War One, the first great tragedy of humanity.
The story revolves around an old Cuban fisherman who fights with a huge Marlin in the Gulf Stream off the coast. It laid the prominent position of Hemingway in world literature. This novel successively won the Pulitzer prize in 1953 and the Nobel prize in literature in 1954.
