Focus on all the students
stick to level-grading teaching method
English teaching is not a one-way transmission of grammar and syntax structure, but also concerned with double-way of activities between teachers and students. Different students have different characters, different abilities of understanding and thinking, so our daily teaching should focus on all the students. We should focus on their psychology, their behaviors, their thoughts and feelings. In terms of focusing on all the students, adopting the level-grading teaching method and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude are the main approaches to satisfy all kinds of students’ needs, to cultivate their desires to learn and to help them make progress. One tree cant make a forest. Only by making all the students get improved together can we teachers achieve our teaching goals.
One of my personal experiences in English teaching can demonstrate this viewpoint well. Several days ago, I displayed an authentic class In Search of the Amber Room from Unit1, Book2 in SEFC. That was a reading class. The teaching objectives are to help the students know the history of the Amber Room, and to cultivate their awareness of protecting cultural relics. In that class, I divided the whole class into 6 groups according to their abilities. Group 1 and 2 were students who had some difficulty in learning English. Group 3 and 4 were students belonging to the middle grade. Group 5 and 6 were excellent students who often got more than 120 scores in English exams.
In the part of careful-reading, I held a competition among the 6 groups. For group1 and 2, I just wanted them to find out some detailed information such as color, birthplace and design about the Amber Room according to para.1 and answer some questions in para2. and para3.The tasks in para.4 are TF exercises.
