Carvajal, Ph. 57 1 4100400, andrea.forero@ Abstract Around the world, the cities must confront challenges of the transportation areas, for this reason, currently there exist new technological approaches that use advanced techniques for supporting several solutions in this sector, specially, due to the amount of information that must be managed. As regard of this, new databases approach are becoming a possible solution for supporting the way that the information are managed not only in transportation sector but also in others economy sectors. In the field of Transportation, especially for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), they help to organize the information for ITS applications. This paper gives a new general point of view of applying NoSQL approach into ITS applications and at the same time, presents a case study that use this approach. The case study is focused on implementing a NoSQL database to support the automatic generation of O/D Matrix. Keywords: Big Data, O/D matrix, Transportation planning.
