“十二五” 职业教育规划教材 “十二五” 职业教育规划教材 “十二五” 职业教育规划教材 “十二五” 职业教育规划教材 “十二五” 职业教育规划教材 * * 主讲教师:谢花萍 英语语法 English Grammar 娄底职业技术学院 Loudi Vocational and Technical College 应用英语专业资源库 Resource Library of Applied English 复习 情态动词的基本用法 总述 情态动词是助动词的一种,不能单独作谓语。但情态动词具有词汇意义,表示说话人对所谈及事物或动作的语气或情态,如可能、应该、需要、意愿等。常见的情态动词有can, could, may, might, must, need, dare, shall, will, would, should, ought to, have to, used to, had better, would rather等。一般说来,情态动词没有人称和数的变化,但少数有时态的变化。在用法上,情态动词后接实意动词原形共同构成谓语,变为疑问句时只需将情态动词移至主语前,一般直接在情态动词后加not构成否定句。  情态动词的用法 2. 情态动词的用法 情态动词 用法 例句 Can could 表示能力,“能”、“会” Can he drive a car? I could play chess when I was ten. 表示推测,“可能”、 “会” We’ve got a map, so we can’t lose our way. What could he mean? I wondered. 表示许可,“可以” You can use my book this time. You can’t go home yet. Could you tell me how to get to the railway station? — Could I have the air conditioner on? — Yes, you can./No, you can’t. 【注意】 can 和be able to的用法比较: can表示泛指一般的能力,而be able to指经过努力才具备的能力,且可用于多种时态。 He is able to pay for a new flat. He worked very hard and was able to pass his examinations. 情态动词 用法 例句 may might 表示许可,“可以” May/Might I make a suggestion? He said we might take these books home. — May I go with you? — Yes, you may. — No, you mustn’t/can’t. — You’d better not. 表示推测,“可能”,might可能性更小 It may/might rain this evening. I might not be free on weekends. He may still be waiting for us. You may/might have been too tired that night. 【注意】 “may”还可以用来表示祝愿。 May you succeed! May you be happy! May you have a pleasant journey! May the friendship between us last forever! 情态动词 用法 例句 must mustn’t must表示推测, “准是”、“一定是” It must be his apartment. He must be in his forties. The light was out. They must have gone to bed. must表示不可避免性,“必然要”、“必定会” All men must die. mustn’t意为“不许”、“禁止” The meeting is of great importance, and you mustn’t be absent from it. You mustn’t turn on the TV till you have finished your homework. 【注意】 must 和 have to 的用法区别: must和have to均可表示“必须”,但must表示说话人的主观看法;have to
