Teaching designs Teaching aims: Guide the students to enjoy the literature by reading the story so that they can know about its contribution to the world . Develop the students’ creative ability by acting out the plot of the story , and then arouse their interest in literature. Teaching key points: Reading comprehension and performances. Teaching methods: multiplied computer and group-tasked method. Teaching procedures: (6 procedures) Procedure 1: warming-up By showing the students a part of a movie about Jane Eyre to arouse their interest in this lesson and guide the students to learn about some information about literature and their writers. And then introduce Charles Dickens and his works. Procedure 2: skimming reading (Individual study) Before skimming, show the students lots of pictures about the film of Oliver Twist. Then make them have a fast reading to have a general idea Meanwhile, give them two tasks. Procedure3: careful reading: (Combination between individual and group study) 1.Try to read the text carefully and then finish the chart of the following: The accident Oliver asked for……in the workhouse. The reason of the incident The boys were given …….and slowly ……..months ,until finally, they became quite ……… The process of the incident One tall boy told his friends that he ….. They had a meeting and……Oliver was ….Desperate with hunger,he asked…. No sooner…than….and shouted…. The result of the incident Oliver was … in a room and the gentleman was sure…. 2: True or false: (speak out which is wrong and which is right and then try to correct the mistakes.) Give them some chances to show themselves and encourage more students to have a try. The purpose is to check the students’ whole understanding about the text. 1). The boys in the workhouse were given one bowl of soup and another 60 grams of bread each day. 2). The tall boy was not used to being hungry all the time. 3).
