(The teacher looks at individual students, asking this question and prompts them to answer. ) T: What’s the initial letter of the word: people? S1: P. (The teacher gets three or four students to come to the front of the classroom. ) (The teacher explains to the students: what’s the function of a letter? ) T: What’s the initial letter of the word: queen? S1: Q. T: What’s the initial letter of the word: rabbit? S2: R. T: What’s the initial letter of the word: ok? S3: O. T: What’s the initial letter of the word: PE? S4: P.
