CONFLICT RESEARCH PROGRAMME Research at LSE Conflict Research Programme Violence and Fragmentation in Congo’s Political Marketplace Peer Schouten About the Author Peer Schouten is a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies and an associate researcher at the International Peace Information Service. His research focuses on the political economy of conflict in Central Africa, with a special focus on the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is the author of Roadblock Politics: the Origins of Violence in Central Africa, appearing this year in Cambridge University Press. Acknowledgements This paper is the outcome of a two-day workshop Armed Groups and the Political Marketplace in Eastern Congo, held in Ghent in March 2020.
