Step 1: revision
1、Let the students retell the cousins’ trip route .
China to Vancouver
Vancouver to the Rocky Mountains
Calgary (Stampede)
Thunder Bay
The Great Lakes
Toronto
2、Let the students review some words and expressions of the reading material .
3、Pairwork to finish some available practice about the words and expressions .
Step 2: word study
1、Give the students some sentences with “multi-” , and let them guess the meaning of the colored parts . Then tell them that “multi-” means “many”; and then give them some practice .
When telling about the word “multistorey”, ask some students who live on a multistory buildings to express their homes .

multicoloured made of many colours
multichannel having many channels
multiform existing in many forms
multinational including many nations
multistorey having many stories / storeys
multimedia using many media
multitrack made of many tracks
multifaith including many religions / faiths

2、The same process to practice another word formation “--wards”, showing them a map of Shandong Province and try to tell the route from Dongying to other cities .
When learning about the words “outwards ”and ”inwards” , ask a student about his or her home door , let him or her tell the class how his or her home door opens .
