Teaching plan for British and American English
Planning time: section 1 (one class)
Ⅰ.Teaching aims:
Language objectives
1. Read the text fluently and get to find out some details and information about British and American English.
2. Train the students’ speaking and reading level.
3. Students learn to tell the differences between British and American English.
Ability objectives
Practice the reading skill in every sentence.
Practice the translation skill in every sentence.
Practice the details understanding ability.
Morality objectives
To have an open and acceptable attitude to the differences between the two varieties.
2. To overcome the difficulty to study English.
3. To understand our mother tongue further and love our own country more .
Ⅱ.Keys and difficulties
1. To understand more differences or information about British and American English.
2. To use the different words and phrases to express the same meanings.
Ⅲ.Analysis of the textbook
We often hear of American and British English , but how much we know the differences between them. This text can let us know of some details about the two varieties. The students can tell them from the vocabulary, spelling , pronunciation and grammar after studying the text , then they can see the future of the different languages moving closer together. The students also use different languages to communicate , and they can understand each other well.
Ⅳ.Teaching procedure
Step 1: lead-in
Activity 1: Ask the Ss to think of some differences between Am.E and Br.E.
Activity 2. Ask the Ss to write down some words they have learned which can prove Am.E is different from Br.E.
Step 2: Reading
①Fast reading
Activity 1: Ask the Ss to finish activity 2 on Page 1, then gain some basic information about the differences.
Activity 2: Divide the text into several parts & summarize the main idea.
Activity 3: Read the passage on Page 2 to find four different aspects in the two varieties.
