【教学过程】
Step one: Warm-up.
Greeting.
Sing a song “If you are happy”.
Study “happy”.
Step two: Lead-in.
Free talk.
T: Are you happy?
Ss: Yes, I am.
Show Ss pictures of Mike, Wang Bing and Liu Tao.
T: Are they happy?
Ss: No, they aren’t.
T: What’s the matter? Let’s help them.
Study “What’s the matter?”
a. Show the picture of Mike.
T: What’s the matter, Mike?
(Listen to the tape.)
Ss: I’m thirsty.
T: Can you help him?
S1: Come and have a glass of juice.
S2: Come and have some tea.
S3: Come and have some water.
Study “thirsty” and “water”.
b. Show the picture of Wang Bing.
T: Wang Bing is not happy. What do you want to say?
S1: What’s the matter, Wang Bing?
(Listen to the tape.)
Computer: I’m hungry.
T: If you are Wang Bing, how will you ask for help?
S2: Can I have a pie?
T: Yes. Here you are.
S3: Can I have some hamburgers?

Study “Can I have ...?”
2. Look and guess.
a. Show Ss the picture of Liu Tao.
T: What’s the matter with Liu Tao? Can you guess what happened?
S1: Are you tired?
S2: Are you hungry?
S3: Are you thirsty?
S4: Are you sleepy?
S5: Are you ill?
Study “tired”, “ill” and “sleepy”.
Step three: Story time.
Watch and judge.
T: Liu Tao likes playing table tennis very much. Today he has a table tennis match. But he is not happy now. What’s the matter?
a. Watch the cartoon.
b. Choose “What’s the matter with Liu Tao?”
A. He’s hungry.
B. He’s thirsty.
C. He’s ill.
D. He’s tired.
