1. Ask students to comprehend and speak out the efforts that Ryan made to solve the freshwater shortage and understand the meaning of the title.
2. To help students retell the passage and understand the reason and the process of Ryan taking part in good cause..
3. To enable students to describe the personal qualities of Ryan and cultivate their awareness of taking part in good causes.

Through reading the passage, students are required to obtain some specific information of Ryan taking part in good cause and conclude the reason、the process and the meaning of his acts.

To retell Ryan’s story with expressions in the passage

Activity 1
T asks Ss to look at the map and answer the question:
What conclusion can you get from the map?
T helps Ss to answer the question by guiding them to read the map.
T asks more questions:
Q1. What does dark yellow mean?
Q2. What does light yellow means?
T improves the answers of the Ss.
Then T asks the following question to motivate Ss to think deeply.
Q3. What can we do to help solve the water problems?
T encourages Ss to tick the solutions that they think are most effective to supply Africa with fresh water.
T: we can do a lot to help African people with freshwater shortage problem. But what about Ryan? Let us read the passage and find the answer.
Ss look at the map and answer T’s questions.
Ss are guided to realize that some parts of Africa are facing freshwater shortage problems.
Ss are motivated to think by the following question:
What can we do to help solve the water problems?
Ss tick the solutions that they think most effective.
Ss are expected to develop the ability to read maps.
Ss are expected to realize that some countries in Africa are badly in need of water and think about how to help solve the problem of water
