Methods Carcinomatou and para-carcinomatous normal tissues of 41 patients with gastric carcinoma and specimen of nine patients with benign gastric diseases were collected. Revee tracriptase polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) was performed to detect the survivin m RNA expression in the specime. All the patients were followedup for three yea. The results were analyzed The positive rate of survivin m RNA was higher in the carcinomatous tissues (%) than in the paracarcinomatous normal tissues (%) and the benign gastric diseases tissues (1/9) (P＜). There was no signifcant difference between the paracarcinomatous normal tissues and the benign gastric disease tissues (P＞). Survivin m RAN expression was not related to age, sex, histological subtype, differentiation, pathologic grading or lymph node Expression of survivin m RAN in the gastric carcinomatous tissue can be used as a specific molecular marker for the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma. It can act as an independent prognostic factor.
