Introduction 1.1 Research Background As one of the most effective tool for nowadays international communications, English has gathered a great attention from Chinese education experts and authorities. However, the limited language connections between English and Chinese have made it difficult for English majors to learn the target language. What’s more the constant change of this alive and actively used language makes things even worse. English major students are supposed to become competent users and even experts of this language, which requires a great amount of exposures to the real and native language situations and contexts. Since traditional ways of English teaching which mainly concentrate on the textbooks can hardly meet the requirement above, new learning strategies and patterns are highly expected in English classes. Data-driven Learning (DDL) model based on the digital corpus is a very likely solution for those problems. As for corpus, it is the collection of language materials that transacted and saved by computers. The DDL model based on corpus depends on the corpus indexing software and it clearly shows the data from the language corpus through searching “key word in context”. Therefore, the realness, typical, and richness of the input language have been certified. It can be helpful to enhance the language learner’s sensitivity to the foreign language and accelerate the progress of language intake. A number of Chinese and international experts have studied the DDL model in the passed decades and the majority of them have maintained positive attitudes to DDL model by virtue of its unique value in English teaching and learning.
