Teaching goal: Teaching Plan for Unit 4 Global Warming Period 12 Warming up and Reading I To arouse Ss’ interesting and get some ideas about global warming. To get Ss to know the energy. To strengthen Ss’ sense of environmental protection. To develop the reading skill. Teaching procedure: Step 1: leading-in In this unit, we are going to learn something about the global warming. But first we will talk about the energy. As we know, the heat that causes the earth become warm is release from the energy. Step 2: Warming up So we have some questions about the energy. What is energy? Can you tell what kinds of energy shown in the picture in your book are? And can you sort them out by your geography knowledge? Step 3 pre-reading: Ask SS to answer the questions: Have you ever seen a greenhouse? Do you know how it works? Image that our earth is a huge greenhouse, what will happen? Step 4: Reading 1): Fast-reading Read the passage again to find out the answers to the questions: Who wrote the magazine article? What is the name of the magazine? What are the two graphs about? Second reading: Suppose the passage is divided into 4 parts as following, have Ss find out the main idea of each part. Part 1: Para. 1 Introduce a debate over the issue of global warming Part 2: Para. 2 to 4 Illustrate how global warming comes about Part 3: Para. 5 to 10 List two different attitudes among scientists towards global warming Part 4: Para.11 It’s up to readers to think and decide whether people should do something about global warming or not.
