The Cartridge Expansion Module doesn’t have the infrastructure needed to support tape drives, making it a more cost effective means of scaling the slot capacity of the library. The Centerline architecture allows expansion modules to be installed on both sides of the base module. The Sun SL3000 provides the most flexible capacity-on-demand model in the tape industry, down to a single slot if desired. The question that always comes up on this slide is “why a 1 slot key”? The answer is that 1) it doesn’t take any extra effort from the library to support 1 slot increments so why not, and the physical modules will never break evenly on a 100 slot increment so we wanted to make it easy on customers to use their entire asset and buy exactly what they want. The larger sized keys (200, 500, and 1000) are there to privide a volume discount to cutomers needing more than 100 slots in any given purchase. In addition to flexible slot management and growth, the SL3000 offers flexible drive technology support through it’s Any Cartridge Any SlotTM technology. The SL3000’s seamless support for LTO, T9840, and T10000 tape drives makes it easy to manage and plan capacity as the slots can be used for any purpose. In addition, any future use of the library is protected because the slots can be used for any drive technology.
