Course Team and Lecturer Information (1) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Reading is a fundamental characteristic of the target academic situation in which students are typically reading books and journals, noting, summarising, paraphrasing, and then writing essays, etc. In this course, there are five main units based on different topics with academic reading materials, which provide students various reading strategies and comprehension practise. In addition, Financial Newspaper reading in groups can improve students’ ability of reading English academic materials related to their major. It will also familiarise students with the academic culture of a UK university, enabling to develop their confidence and get off to a good start in their chosen programme of study. (2) COURSE OBJECTIVES: Obtain information (facts, data, etc.) Understand ideas or theories, etc. Develop academic reading competence Help students apply effective reading strategies to academic texts. Develop abilities of reading comprehension and takes care of vocabulary work as well as text analysis.
