ABSTRACT:The WashingtonCadastral Framework Project is a National Spatial DataInfrastructure(NSDI)demonstrationprojectintendedtoshowthebenefitsofbuildingpartnerships,sharingcostsandcoordinatingwork,standardizingdataandtools,speedingupapplicationdevelopment,improvinganddocumentingdata,resolvingdataconflicts,andsharingdata.TheWashingtonCadastralFrameworkProjectisbrokendownintotwophaseswhicharepilotprojectsdesignedtoimplementastandardcadastraldatasetandtointegratecadastraldatafrommultipledatasources.Phase1(September1997toSeptember1998)involvesextendingandimplementingtheFederalGeographicDataCommittee(FGDC)CadastralDataContentStandardinSDE/Oracle,populatingthedatabasewithinitialdata,developingmetadataonthedata,anddistributingthedataovertheInternettoprojectpartners.TheCadastralDataContentStandardwasextendedtoworkwithotherframeworkdatacontentthemes:GeodeticControl,Hydrography,Transportation,andGovernmentalUnits.Phase2(September1998toSeptember1999)involvesadaptingtheFGDCCadastralDataTransferStandardfordataexchange,integratingdatafromseveralrepresentativepartnersources(federal,state,regional,county,city,andprivateorganizations),developingupdate-lockingproceduresforlongtransactionsovertheInternet,andautomatingtheintegrationprocesssothatminimalinterventionisrequiredforenforcingstandardsandresolvingconflicts.
