AccordingtotheWorldsInstantNoodlesAssociation,China,Indonesia,VietnamandIndia—inthatorder—allconsumedmoreinstantnoodlesthanbeforein2021.Instantnoodlespopularityabroadisinpartduetohoweasytheyaretoadapttolocaltastes.InThailand,forexample,youcangetgreencurryflavour,whileinMexicothenoodlesaregarnished(加饰的)withlimeandsalsa.Anditseemsthatconsumershavegrowntoexpectinnovation.Nissin,thefoodcompanyfoundedbyAndo,launchesover300productsyearly,accordingtoemployeeKasuraSuzuki.
Instantnoodleshavetheircritics,too.Theirriseinpopularityhascomeatanenvironmentalcost—theyremadewithpalmoil,contributingtodeforestation,andtheirpackagingisplastic.Andwhiletheyareahot,tastyandfillingmeal,instantnoodlesdonthavemuchnutritionalvalue,andincludehighlevelsofsaltandfat.Nevertheless,instantnoodlesareundoubtedlylifesaversinemergencyorextremesituations.
