1.1Thisspeci?cationcoversmercury-in-glass,reusable

maximumself-registeringclinicalthermometersofthetypes

commonlyusedformeasuringbodytemperaturesofhumans

andofanimals.Requirementsaregivenforbulbandstem

glasses,mercury,legibilityandpermanencyofmarkings,

dimensions,temperaturescaleranges,andgraduations,aswell

asforthermometerstability,easeofresetting,retentionof

temperatureindication,andforaccuracyofscalereading.

Appropriatemethodsoftestingtodeterminecomplianceare

provided.Alsoincludedisaglossaryoftermsusedinthe

standardandanappendixwithadditionalinformationon

thermometerglassesandstability.

referencetotheInternationalTemperatureScaleof1990.
