ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1753;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Scope

Thisspecificationcoverslensesandscopesusedinconjunctionwitharcherybows.Itestablishesastandardizedsystemfortheclassificationoftheselensesintermsoftheiropticalmagnification,themarkingofthescopesinwhichthelensesaremounted,andchartsdepictingtheempiricalrela-tionshipoftheapparentmagnificationtheconsumercanexpecttoobtainwhenacorrectlymarkedlensisusedunderspecificconditions.

Acuity—Thevisualacuityoftheselensesisrelatedtothemagnificationofthelensingeneral.Fortheaveragesubjecttherecanbeanimprovementinacuitywithlenseshavingapparentmagnificationsof2to43andadecrementinacuitywithlensesof63andgreater.

Acuityalsoisdependentonotherfactors,suchasthespecificindividual,lensquality,andthesizeandqualityoftherearaperture(peep)usedinconjunctionwiththelens.Beyondthisstatement,acuityisnotthesubjectofthisspecification.
