With the evolution of history and culture, quite a lot of animals keep a close relationship with our human beings all the time, and have a great impact on our survival and development. Thus there are a great number of idioms about animals both in English and Chinese. We can call it as?“animal idioms”, which can make a language more vivid and charming. Almost all the animals in idioms have there particular images and associative meanings owing to their own identities as well as people’s imagination. However, the same animal in the two languages sometimes has different images or associative meanings due to different social and cultural backgrounds, customs, regional beliefs.?Before we talk about animal idioms in English, we have to know something about English idioms, which, generally speaking, mainly include set phrases or expressions, colloquialism, proverbs as well as slang. Animal Idioms in English can also be divided into those parts with animal images. Among those idioms, slang is a kind of particular one that only exists in English. It takes up a large proportion of spoken language. Slang refers to the language that is not often acceptable in serious speech or writing, and used among particular groups of people.
