Analyzing the college entrance exams during these years, people can see the demand of English reading has been increasing year by year. Therefore, in such a situation, English teachers cannot merely adopt the traditional teaching model in English reading teaching: Teaching vocabularies---analyzing the text---explaining grammar---reading the text---doing exercises. As time passes, students will of course lose all interest in English unless teachers apply some effective approaches to English reading teaching. Therefore, the exploration of English reading class seems even more important. Meanwhile, according to New English teaching syllabus of Chinese middle school, the purpose of English teaching is to enlarge students’ vocabulary, develop their basic skills and improve student’s ability of communication in English, but the most important thing is to improve students’ English-reading ability. Although there is one reading comprehension material in each unit of the English textbooks; the materials involve variety of aspects, such as history, culture, art, science and technology, natural disaster, environmental protection, human rights, etc; English teachers spare no efforts to try to improve the students’ English reading ability, the result is always not so good when the students face reading comprehension.? How do English teachers improve middle school students’ reading comprehension? Before answering this question better, we should first know the nature, the concept and the purpose of reading, and analyze the factors influencing middle school students’ English reading comprehension. As a Chinese saying goes,?“Knowing yourself and knowing the enemy is the key to winning all battles.” In fact, English reading is a troublesome thing for middle school students.
