However, people also express emotions, exchange ideas and convey information in other ways. All of the communicative activities without the verbal language are nonverbal communication, composed of eye contact, gestures, facial expressions, dressing, body distance, physical contact and so on. Some researchers think that 80 percent of communication comes from nonverbal communication. Moreover, an authority, Mehrabian found in his study that 55 percent of communication comes from body language.Body language is a term for communication using body movements or gestures instead of, or in addition to, sounds, verbal language or other communication.1 Body language, as an important part of nonverbal communication, plays an essential role in human communication. Furthermore, body language is closely connected with culture and it is the result of culture. But many people pay great attention to the acceptance and correctness of verbal communication while overlook the influence and cultural differences of body language. Then the misunderstanding and cultural crash often occur in the cross-cultural communication. So in the process of human communication, it is not complete if people ignore the cultural differences of body language.This thesis mainly gives a brief introduction to body language in cross-cultural communication, aiming to reduce barriers in communication so as to achieve effective communication and to avoid misunderstanding.Ⅱ. Specific Types of Body LanguageBody language from different cultures has many differences because of different regions, races and cultural customs. And it is restricted by its culture and has different cultural connotations. That is to say, the same body language may have different meanings and different social functions in different cultures
