However, because of the restriction of location and backward economy, the English teaching in rural areas is not optimistic. In rural area, the students lack the motivation of learning English and the environment of speaking English, the teachers lack of proper teaching methods and measures, the schools lack high-quality English teachers and English- learning equipments, etc. which make the English teaching in rural area is still in a low-level situation. At the beginning of 20th century, our country leads a new innovation in education. The new standard of English curriculum published by Ministry of Education advocates adopting the task-based approach in English teaching. The research of task-based approach began in 1980s. Prabhu carried on an experiment of strong communication?(the Bangalore Project) at the south of Bangalore in India. With the deeper research on the system of task-based approach, more and more linguists get into the tide and have reached remarkable achievements which benefit our English teaching a lot. However, in the large rural areas of our country, there are many realistic difficulties and problems in English teaching. Therefore, the application of task-based approach in this area is not so easy and must meet with many problems. In order to improve the English teaching in rural middle schools, this paper tries to find out some useful ways and measures to make good use of task-based approach. And the premise is to have a clear idea about the present situation of English teaching in rural middle schools and a thorough understanding about the task-based approach.Ⅱ. The Present Situation of English Teaching in Rural Middle Schools
