ABSTRACT
This study is to explore the educating mode for novice second language teachers in
service. This study uses case study to collect data by involving teacher educating,
classroom teaching observation, structured interview, evaluation forms, case analysis
based on the teacher development of two novice teachers from the same high school
in Xiamen, Fujian. The purpose of this study is to validate some relevant theory of
teacher education and to explore effective mode of teacher education for novice
second language teachers in service so that the novice teachers will have faster
professional growth in their teaching practice by developing awareness and
competence of autonomous development. Thus they can be qualified for their present
teaching work and avoid misguiding their students caused by their ineffective
teaching. The tools of the study include records of classroom teaching observation,
records of interview, evaluation forms of investigation, case reflections, teaching
assessment, teaching design, teaching journal, evaluation forms of professional
development. A qualitative analysis is used as the major method while a quantitative
analysis is used as a secondary method.
This study mainly investigates the following three questions: First, how should the
individual teacher education be developed to facilitate the autonomous professional
development? Second, how can novice teachers be helped to have faster professional
growth by avoiding useless blind fumbling in their progress? Third, What is the
effective educating mode for novice L2 teachers in service?
