THESTUDIESOFNEWQUASIAFFIX INMODERNCHINESELANGUAGE ABSTRACT Foralongtime,thestudiesofChineseaffixandthoserelevanthavent caughtmuchoflinguistsattention.Mostlinguiststhinktheaffixinmodern ChineselanguageisonlytheappendageofChineseword-formation.Though theythinkthedefinitionofChineseaffixisroughlythesame,theylay particularemphasisonit.Duetothefactthatevery linguistshowsgreat differenceonthejudgmentofspecificChineseaffix,wemustdeepenthe knowledgeabouttheChineseaffixwhilelinguistshavenoticedthe phenomenonthatsomanynewaffixeshaveappearedinnewwordsinmodern Chineselanguage.Howtoobservethisphenomenon?Areallthesenewthe realChineseaffixes?DotheyhavethequalityofChineseaffix?Thesestill remainquestions.Forthisreason,theauthorhastriedtobroadenthe knowledgeabouttheChineseaffix,analysinganddescribingthenew quasiaffixfromdifferentaspects,asaresultofwhichwemaylearnaboutthe qualityofChineselanguage,thedevelopmentofChinesevocabularyand changeofChineseword-formationaswell.Thisissupposedtoprovidethe sourcematerialforculturestudiesincertainperiods.Startingwithgeneral linguisticsandotherrelevantlinguisticstheories,theauthorstudiesinadegree themodemChineseaffixandnewquasiaffixwhichisfollowedbyanexact description.Again,foraprofoundstudyoftheChineseaffix,theauthor employsgenerallinguisticswithcomparingtheChineseaffixwiththoseof otherlanguagesandwithconsiderationofpresentsituationofChinese languagewhichsuggestsastandardfordefiningnewquasiaffixes.Thusthe authorhasdonesomequantifiedandqualifiedstudiesonnewquasiaffix. Besidesgrammaticalstudy,someresearchinviewofculturehasalsobeen achieved.Lastbutnotleasttheauthorpredictsthegoingonofthenew quasiaffixinmodernChineselanguage.Allthestudiestendtobringoutsome suggestionsforthoroughlearningaboutChineseword-formationboth synchronizelyanddiachronicaly.
