Lesson Three The Development of EC in Internet Era 1.Looking back on the history of the application of information technologies in doing business, we can see that it has gone through three stages. The first stage is called “Electronic Data Processing Era”, i.e. , the EDP era, during 1955-1974. The second stage is “Management Information System Era”, MIS Era, during 1975-1994. 2.So, how will the EC develop in EC era? First, no other media can compare with the web’s feature of wide-range of contacts and choices. Second, in EC era, every company, except the final consumers, faces both new opportunities and challenges. Finally, EC has totally transformed the nature of competition, no time limitation or geographical restriction, to make the competition much fair, especially to the small companies. Notes 1.
