EBI and ActiveX ...the technology of the future! Microsoft’s ActiveX technology What is ActiveX ? ActiveX is a suite of new technologies from Microsoft which allow interactive content on a page. ActiveX is based on COM (Component Object Model) Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 3.0 (and their upcoming 4.0) incorporate many ActiveX technologies. Now EBI also leverages off ActiveX technologies and the advances being made with the world wide web. ActiveX technology with EBI What can we do with ActiveX in EBI? ActiveX Scripting: VBScript can be used to control the interaction of display elements on an EBI page. ActiveX Documents: Station can view various documents, e.g. Word or Excel documents on a page. I.E. Browser Object: Station can view web pages from an Intranet or Internet server under tight control OLE Automation: A Visual Basic application can control station through simple OLE automation calls. ActiveX Scripting in Station What does ActiveX Scripting in EBI displays mean? Using VBScript, a wide range of powerful applications can be created Attach VBScript code to display elements within Station such as: Attach code to a page, a combobox, a rectangle etc Code is activated on your choice of event such as: on mouse enter, on change of value, on mouse click etc The script editor is available through Display Builder What does ActiveX Scripting look like? ActiveX Scripting Why would I use ActiveX Scripting?
