New Steel Co. , Ltd. , Angang Group, Anshan 114021, Liaoning, China) Abstract: It w as indicated by solidification simulation that the t em perature distribut ion along width direction of slab is uneven in evidence, there exist f ive relatively low temperature regions both on surface and inside the slab corre- spondingly, among which three are just below 3 w ater spraying nozzles and two at t he two edges, and there exist four relatively higher t emperature regions betw een the lower temperature regions. T he wider the slab, the severer the unevenness of solidification is and vive versa. By increasing secondary cooling water flow rate, not only the sur- face temperature of the slab, but the unevenness is reduced obviously. Using a w ater distribution mode in w hich the cooling is strong in a certain area around the center and moderate in the region about 100 mm apart from narrow sides and soft cooling at the corners, the temperature prof ile of slab becomes more homogeneous and the corner tem- perature is higher.
