This meaning is used more in a metaphorical sense e.g.: Society must invest in its children. OR: the government should invest in its education system to ensure that smart and dedicated workers are produced for the future. to invest with (something) To make someone or something have a particular quality e.g.: being college professors invests Bob and Rob with a certain respectability, but in reality theyre scoundrels. IDIOM: in stock / out of stock If goods are in stock, they are available for purchase.
