Abstract
LewisandClarkLakeislocatedonthemain stream oftheMissouriRiver．Thereservoirisformedbehind
GavinsPointdam nearYankton．SouthDakota．U．S．A．TheLewisandClarkLakereachextendsabout40km
from theGavinsPointdam．ThereservoirdeltahasbeengrowingsincetheclosureofGavinsPointdam in1955
andhasresultedina21％reductionofstoragewithinthemaximum poo1ofthereservoir．Amongseveralsediment
managementmethods，drawdown flushinghasbeen recommendedasapossiblemanagementtechnique．The
engineeringviability ofremovingsedimentsdepositedinthelakeshouldbeexaminedbynumerica1modeling
beforeimplementingadrawdownflushing．GSTARS4wasusedforthisstudyandcalibratedbyusingmeasured
datarfom 1975to1995．Channelcross—sectionchangesandamountofflushedsedimentwerepredictedwim four
hypotheticalflow scenarios．Theflushingeffi cienciesofallscenarioswereestimatedbv comparingtheratios
