The following are some commonly used forms: brokers, sole agent, general agent and commission agent. Brokers Sole Agent General Agent Commission Agent Chapter 16 Agency, Distribution and Consignment Distribution Distributor Wholesaler Retailer Distribution is a channel of allocation of goods to consumers from the manufacturers, which consists of distributors, wholesalers and retailers besides manufacturers. Sole or exclusive distributor Non-exclusive distributor Chapter 16 Agency, Distribution and Consignment Consignment Consignment is the delivery of merchandise from an exporter to an agent under agreement that the agent sells the merchandise for the account of the exporter. The consignor retains title to the goods until sold. The consignee sells the goods for commission and remits the net proceeds to the consignor. The essence of consignment trading is that goods exported on the consignment remain the property to the exporter. The agent, who usually works for a commission, does not normally pay for the goods until they are sold and does not own them, although usually having possession of them. The final settlement, often called a consignment account, details the cost of the good, the expense incurred, the agent’s commission, ant the proceeds of the sale.
