Partial inversion: 结构:助动词/情态动词/系动词+主语+谓语动词 Hardly could she believe her own eyes. Step 2 : Part A : Full inversion in different cases Tasks: Give them 4 tasks containing some questions. Let the students summarize the cases in which full inversion is used. And then do some exercises. When the sentence begins with here, there, in, out, up, down, on, etc., full inversion is used The subject must be nouns . Here comes the teacher. Away went the boy. When the sentence begins with on the wall, under the tree, in front of the house, in the middle of the room etc.,full inversion is used.The subject must be nouns . On the top of the hill stands a brave young girl. Under the big tree sits a handsome man, thinking and smiling. When the subject is too long, full inversion is used. Present at the meeting are Premier Li and many other leaders. Gone are the days when we Chinese were looked down upon. When the sentence begins with such, full inversion is used. Such is life. Such are the facts; no one can deny them. Step 3 : Part B: Partial inversion in different cases Ask the students to compare the following 6 sentences and summarize the cases in which full inversion is used.And then do some exercises. 1 Only in this way can you learn English well. 2 Hardly does he have time to listen to music. 3 Tom can抰 answer the question. When the sentence begins with only ,partial inversion is used. And tell the students to note that when “only” modifies the subject, we do not invert the subject and the predicate.
