Module 4 A Social Survey — My Neighbourhood
Second period:Reading and Vocabulary (Teaching with a courseware)
Teaching aims and demands:
Knowledge: Master the new words and expressions in this reading; Get more familiar with the present perfect tense (compared with the past tense); Know the ways of expressing positions and directions.
Skill: Listening: Listen and understand the dialogues and articles introducing places.
Speaking: Be able to speak using stresses; say sentences with new words and expressions in this reading; talk about positions and directions; introduce the local landscape.
Reading: Read and understand this reading, similar articles introducing landscapes or geography characteristics of one place.
Writing: Employ properly the words but and and, and the present perfect tense. Write smoothly a short passage introducing a local place.
Strategies: Cognition: Learn the ways of introducing a place.
Control: While doing tasks, watch and listen to other classmates and learn from them.
Resources: Learn about cities at home and abroad through communication with teachers and classmates.
Cross-culture awareness: Learn about cities of our country and foreign ones.
Cultivate the awareness of environment protection.
Attitude: Cultivate one’s love for one’s hometown and one’s motherland.
Important and difficult point: Learn the ways of introducing one place.
Time needed: one period.
Teaching procedure:
Pre-reading
Review the ways of showing position by means of a guessing game.
Show pictures and ask : Which city is this? It’s Beijing. Where is Beijing?
Beijing is in the north of China.

(I) Read the passage quickly and find answers to the following questions:
1.Who is visiting whose hometown?
2.Where does Xiao Li live?
3.What’s the climate/weather like there?
4.Which district is the most interesting part of Xiamen?
