Teaching Aims
1. Make the students master some new words.
2. Encourage the students to know how to introduce a place.
3. Make sure the students have a clear understanding the writer’s travel route and what he did in each place.

Teach the students some new words and follow the writer to make a trip along the Three Gorges.

Some pictures,a map,multimedia and a blackboard.
Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Introduction
T: Good morning, boys and girls!
T: Look at the picture in your book. What can you see?
S: I can see mountains, river, peak and Cliff (valley, slope, wood are mentioned.)
T: Good, We can see cliffs,valley,slope,peaks,wood and so on.
Now let’s look and read the words in the box in your books. And finish the Activity 2.
Suggested answers: 1.valley 2.plain 3.shore 4.slope 5.Cliffs 6.peak 7.lake 8.wood 9.cave 10.plateau
T: So much for the new words. Next, come to Activity 3. You all know the Yangtze River, how much do you know about it? OK, let’s do a quiz.
Suggested answers: 1.c ’d like to talk about the boat, the scenery and life along the river.
T: Yes, reasonable answers. Do you have other choices?
S: I’ll choose all of them.
T: Good choice. Do you want to know which topics the writer talks about?
S: Yes.
Step 3 Fast reading
T: Now, read the passage on Page 42 and check which the writer talks about. Meanwhile, pay attention to the words in Activities 4 and 5. If there are some new words for you, underline them and try to guess their meanings.
(About seven minutes later, collect their answers to Activity 2.)
T: Time’s up. Let’s check your answer to question in Activity 2.
