A threefold cord is not quickly broken when unity lies at the centre of the nation’s heart. This essay seeks to explore not only the causes and results of the riot but also on how significant was this riot to three Singaporeans who had somehow walked through this stage of struggle with the nation. Background of the three interviewees I am happy to have the privilege to interview three people; Mdm Alice Yeo who is my mother, Uncle Charles and Auntie Lillian who are my friends. Three of them grew up in this frightening strained state period of Singapore caused by scuffle. Presently both Mdm Alice Yeo and Uncle Charles are 48 years old and were 7 years old young primary school students while Auntie Lillian currently at 55 was a 14 years old secondary school girl during 1964. Even though the racial riot happened 40 years ago, trace of memories still retained in the minds of these three people who stayed at different corner of Singapore and have had own each unique sharing about the racial riot.
