De?nitive treatment in the form of an evisceration was delayed by 38 days. During this period a bandage contact lens prevented extrusion of ocular contents through an enlarging corneal perforation. This case demonstrates that a bandage contact lens can be effective in the immediate management of large corneal perforations whilst awaiting urgent de?nitive treatment. ? 2015 British Contact Lens Association. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. 1. Case A 76 year old male has a 10 year history of left phthisis bulbi. He presented with left eye discomfort and was found to have a corneal perforation with a completely collapsed anterior chamber. A long term bandage contact lens (BCL), in place prior to his presentation, remained in situ with its posterior surface adherent to the crystalline lens. A referral to a tertiary centre for consideration of removal of his left eye was delayed by 38 days, after which point a photograph (Fig 1) was taken. Despite the delay the patient developed no signi?cant pain. Fig. 1 illustrates the crystalline lens signi?cantly extruded through the cornea, with the BCL appearing Fig. 1. a, crystalline lens. b, margin of corneal perforation. c, bandage contact lens. * Corresponding author.
