When a speech continuum (连续体) is long, we divide it into units of meaning, each at a time. The smallest speech unit is called a sense group. Linking within a Group Words in a sense group are linked together, with no pauses between the words. Long Short Pauses Sense groups within a sentence are usually characterized by a shorter pause. The end of a sentence is always recognized by a long pause. Stress At least one prominent word is contained in a sense group. 1. All of the students 2.
