Step two: Background information Explain the background of the text 1）Maglev Maglev, a super high-speed transport system with a non-adhesive drive system that is independent of wheel-and-rail frictional forces, realizes super high-speed running, safety, reliability, low environmental impact and minimum maintenance. Research and development of Maglev, which adopts superconducting technology, has been underway at RTRI（Railway Technology Research Institute）of JR (Japan Railways) since 1970. A landmark for Maglev occurred in 1990 when it gained the status of a nationally-funded project. The Minister of Transport authorized construction of the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line, targeting the final confirmation of Maglev for practical use. 2）Shinkansen: Japans main island Honshu is covered by a network of high speed train lines (bullet trains) called Shinkansen operated by the JR (Japan Railways). The Tokaido Shinkansen, connecting Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, was inaugurated in the year 1964 as the first Shinkansen line and the worlds first high speed train.
