METHODS: Twentyeight cases of typical gluteus contracture were treated by cutting off the contracture fascia behind and above the greater trochanter. All cases were asked to do early functional training. RESULTS: The patients were followed up for 632 months. All cases recovered to normal or nearly normal in gait. No sciatic nerve injury or recurrence was observed. CONCLUSION: This operative approach, far away from sciatic nerve , is safe and simple to operate. Additionally, tissue contracture can be released completely and trauma is small. The therapeutic effect is assured.
