Aside from health problems caused by trichinellosis as a zoonosis, there is no doubt that it representsaseriouseconomicproblemforswinemeatproducers.The researchinthispaperhasbeenperformedinSerbia,inaregionwhich is located at the confluence of two large rivers, and it is the geographical location which makes it an endemic area for the presenceofT.spiralis.Epidemiologicaldatapertainstotheperiodof 1995-2003,butalsototheperiod2003-2009,whentheimplementation of the program for control and eradication of trichinellosis was complete.Thediagnostictestingofcadaversofslaughteredswinefor thepresenceofT.spiralisintheperiodof1995-2003included41.04% oftheslaughteredswine,outofwhich0.4281%werepositive,andthe amount of economic loss wasdinars or about one million EUR.Theinfectionwasconfirmedin432patientsduringtheresearch period.Thepreparationoftheprogramforthecontrolanderadication oftrichinellosishasbeenmadeinaccordancewithapplicablelawsand technologicalstandards,withacleardeterminationofinputandoutput using a cost-benefit analysis.
