Weuseanapproximationmethodtostudythesolutiontoanonlinearheatconductionequationina semi-in?nite domain.Byexpandinganenergydensityfunctionde?nedastheinternalenergyper unitvolumeasaTaylorpolynomialinaspatialdomain,wereducethepartialdi?erentialequation toasetof?rst-orderordinarydi?erentialequations intime.Wedescribeasystematic approachto deriveapproximatesolutionsusingTaylorpolynomials ofadi?erentdegree.Foraspecialcase,we deriveananalyticalsolutionandcompareitwiththeresultofaself-similaranalysis.Acomparison withthenumerically integratedresultsdemonstrates goodaccuracyofourapproximatesolutions.
