Thispaperpresents?ndingsfromaqualitativedescriptivestudythatexploredtheprofessionalsocializationexperiencesofLicensed Practical Nurses(LPNs)whoattended anonline universitytoearn aBaccalaureate degree innursing(BN),aprerequisiteto writingtheCanadianRegisteredNurse(RN)qualifyingexam.TheprojectwasframedfromaconstructivistworldviewandHaas andSha?r’stheoryoflegitimation.Participantswere27nursesinaPost-LPNtoBNprogramwhocamefromacrossCanadato completerequiredpracticums.Datawascollectedfromdigitalrecordingsoffourfocusgroupsheldindi?erentcities.Transcripts wereanalyzedforthemesandcon?rmedwithparticipantsthroughmemberchecking.Twooverarchingthemeswereidenti?edand arepresentedtoexplainhowtheseuniqueadultlearnerssoughttolegitimizetheiremergingidentityasRegisteredNurses(RNs).
