Purpose.Thisstudyexaminedtheassociationbetweenself-reportedweightchangeandqualityoflife,andexerciseandweight managementbehaviorsamongindividualswithtype2diabetesmellitus(T2DM).Methods.IntheUSSHIELDstudy,respondents reported whether they had lost or gained weight compared with 1 year earlier and completed the SHIELD-WQ-9 quality of lifequestionnaireaswellasprovidedinformationontheirexerciseandweightmanagementbehaviorsinthepast12months. Results.Sixteenpercentoftherespondentsreportedgainingweight(n=460),and30%reportedlosingweight(n=895).More respondentswhoreportedlosingweightexercisedregularly,limitedcalorieandfatintake,andincreased?ber,fruit,andvegetable intakecomparedwithrespondentswhoreportedgainingweight(P0.01).Forallnineaspectsofdailylife,asigni?cantlygreater proportionofrespondentswhoreportedlosingweightreportedimprovedwell-being(12%–44%)comparedwithrespondents whoreportedgainingweight(P0.0001).Conclusions.Self-reportedweightlosswasassociatedwithimprovedwell-being,better exercise,andweightmanagementbehaviorsamongindividualswithT2DM. 1.Introduction Weight loss has been associated with reduced insul
