Increasingattentionisbeingfocusedonsleepdurationasapotentialmodi?ableriskfactorassociatedwithobesityinchildrenand adolescents.WeanalyzeddatafromthenationalYouthRiskBehaviorSurveytodescribetheassociationofobesity(self-reportBMI ≥95thpercentile)withself-reportedsleepdurationonanaverageschoolnight,amongarepresentativesampleofUShighschool students.Usinglogisticregressiontocontrolfordemographicandbehavioralconfounders,amongfemalestudents,compared to7hoursofsleep,bothshortened(≤4hoursofsleep;adjustedoddsratio(95%con?denceinterval),AOR=1.50(1.05–2.15)) andprolonged(≥9hoursofsleep;AOR=1.54(1.13–2.10))sleepdurationswereassociatedwithincreasedlikelihoodofobesity.
