Researchintonaturalproductsfromthemarineenvironment,includingmicroorganisms,hasrapidlyincreasedoverthepast twodecades.Despitetheenormousdi?cultyinisolatingandharvestingmarinebacteria,microbialmetabolitesareincreasingly attractivetosciencebecauseoftheirbroad-rangingpharmacologicalactivities,especiallythosewithuniquecolorpigments.This currentreviewpapergivesanoverviewofthepigmentednaturalcompoundsisolatedfrombacteriaofmarineorigin,basedon accumulateddataintheliterature.Wereviewthebiologicalactivitiesofmarinecompounds,includingrecentadvancesinthestudy ofpharmacologicale?ectsandothercommercialapplications,inadditiontothebiosynthesisandphysiologicalrolesofassociated pigments.Chemicalstructuresofthebioactivecompoundsdiscussedarealsopresented. 1.Introduction a wide variety of diverse biological systems.
