Thetraditionalantiviralassaysforthedeterminationofinterferonpotencyarereportedtohaveconsiderablevariabilitybetween andwithinassays.Althoughseveralreportergeneassaysbasedoninterferon-induciblepromoteractivitieshavebeenreported,data fromcomprehensivevalidationstudiesarelackingandfewstudieshavebeenconductedtoanalyzethevariantformsofinterferons, whichcouldhaveundesirableclinicalimplications.Here,areportergeneassayemployingaHEK293celllinestablytransfected withluciferasegeneunderthecontrolofinterferon-stimulatedresponseelementpromoterwasdevelopedandvalidated.Theassay wasfoundtobemoresensitive,withalargerdetectionrangethantheantiviralassay.Severalcytokinestesteddidnotinterferewith thetest,suggestingtheassaypossessesacerta
