Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is associated with functional and structural changes of the peritoneal membrane. In this paper, we describetheimpactofdi?erentfactorscontributingtoperitonealincompatibilityofPD?uidinstallationincludingpresenceof acatheter,volumeloading,andthePD?uidcomponentsitself.Thesefactorsinitiaterecruitmentandactivationofperitoneal immunecellssuchasmacrophagesandmastcells,aswellasactivationofperitonealcellsasmesothelialcellsinsitu.Weprovide an overview of PD-associated changes as seen in our rat PD-exposure model.
