Objective.Toexaminetheassociationofself-e?cacy,perceptionofmilkproduction,andlactatingwomen’suseofmedication prescribedtoincreasebreastmilkinacohortof18–40-year-oldmothersoversixmonths.Methods.Mothers(n=76)attending communityclinicscompletedtheBreastfeedingSelf-E?cacyScaleandtheHumenick/HillLactationScale,ameasureofperceived milkproduction,threetimes.Results.Domperidone,adopamineantagonist,wasusedby28%ofparticipants.Onaverage,those usingdomperidonehadlowerself-e?cacyscoresthanthosenotusingit(P 0.05)andweremorelikelytohaveusedformula (Pearsonchi-squareteststatistic= 6.87,df = 1,P 0.05).Breastfeedingselfe?cacyandperceptionofmilkproductionwere positivelycorrelated.Conclusion.Breastfeedingassessmentconductedpriortoprescriptionofgalactogoguesisrecommendedfor mothersandhealthytermbabies.FollowingBaby-Friendlyhospitalprotocolsandincreasingself-e?cacyforlactatingwomenmay bemoste?ectiveinsustainingbreastfeeding.Risksandbene?tsofvariousgalactogoguesarediscussed. 1.Introduction challenging for many women.
