This paper presents an algorithm for camera localization using trajectory estimation (CLUTE) in a distributed network of nonoverlappingcameras.Thealgorithmrecoverstheextrinsiccalibrationparameters,namely,therelativepositionandorientation ofthecameranetworkonacommongroundplanecoordinatesystem.We?rstmodeltheobservedtrajectoriesineachcamera’s ?eldofviewusingKalman?ltering,thenweusethisinformationtoestimatethemissingtrajectoryinformationintheunobserved areas by fusing the results of a forward and backward linear regression estimation from adjacent cameras. These estimated trajectoriesarethen?lteredandusedtorecovertherelativepositionandorientationofthecamerasbyanalyzingtheestimated andobservedexitandentrypointsofanobjectineachcamera’s?eldofview.The?nalcon?gurationofthenetworkisestablished byconsideringonecameraasareferenceandbyadjustingtheremainingcameraswithrespecttothisreference.Wedemonstrate thealgorithmonbothsimulatedandrealdataandcomparetheresultswithstate-of-the-artapproaches.Theexperimentalresults showthattheproposedalgorithmismorerobusttonoisyandmissingdataandincaseofcamerafailure. 1.Introduction intrinsic calibration establishes the relationship between camera-centriccoordinatesandimagescoordinatesandcan beperformedbyacquiringanobjectwi
